TikTok Shop pet supplements: 5 UK eligibility checks
TikTok Shop pet supplements are not covered by a blanket permission: check the exact product against UK platform rules, feed requirements and veterinary medicine classification before listing. As checked on 29 October 2026, section 3.7 of TikTok Shop's UK Restricted Products Policy requires ingredients and allergens for pet food, while its Prohibited Products Policy lists animal medicines and medicated feed as unsupported. Sources: restricted policy, 27 August 2026, and prohibited policy, 25 August 2026.
Updated October 2026. UK-focused guidance, sources checked on 29 October 2026. The five-check framework below is Z Media's operating recommendation, not a platform certification or a determination that a particular product is lawful.
TL;DR: Establish classification before creator recruitment. Prepare product-specific labels and supporting evidence. Keep non-medicinal claims about maintaining health in healthy animals, subject to applicable feed rules. Do not assume CBD pet products are ordinary supplements. Clear the whole presentation, including testimonials and imagery, before amplifying it.
Are TikTok Shop pet supplements allowed in the UK?
Some pet supplements may be eligible, but the label "supplement" does not decide the answer. The product's ingredients, function, presentation, category and current platform requirements all need checking.
TikTok's 25 October 2022 UK pets-category announcement included supplements alongside food, accessories and treats. It named retailers including Herbal Dog Company and Lords And Labradors. That is historical evidence of category availability, not current approval for every formulation or seller.
The current UK restricted policy, dated 27 August 2026, identifies pet food under section 3.7 and asks sellers to be ready to supply label or packaging evidence showing safety and legal compliance. It specifies ingredients and allergens as mandatory product attributes. It does not provide a universal pet-supplement approval certificate that replaces product classification.
Read that alongside the UK prohibited policy, dated 25 August 2026, which lists veterinary products and devices, animal medicines and medicated feed as unsupported. Where a product sits close to that boundary, ask the brand's regulatory lead to establish its classification and obtain clarification through the seller's platform support route before committing stock or samples.
Our pet creator seeding guide covers suitability and dispatch controls. This article answers the earlier question: whether the product and its proposed claims belong on the platform at all.
Which 5 checks should a pet supplement brand complete?
Use a release record that connects the exact SKU to its classification, documents, listing, promotional claims and ongoing review. A general brand approval should not stand in for evidence about a different recipe or product variant.
This original Z Media checklist was created on 29 October 2026 from the UK platform policies above and the Veterinary Medicines Directorate's advertising guidance, updated 25 September 2026. The owners and release process are our recommendations, not statutory job titles.
1. Classification, owned by the brand regulatory lead. Record the intended species, formulation, intended use and classification rationale. Check medicinal ingredients and medicinal presentation. Hold the SKU if its status is unresolved.
2. Product evidence, owned by the product lead. Collect current packaging images, ingredients, allergens, feeding instructions and applicable safety or compliance evidence. Match each document to the product being listed. Check the live category workflow for additional requests rather than borrowing a checklist from another market.
3. Listing eligibility, owned by shop operations. Check the exact category and the current restricted and unsupported product rules. Complete required attributes and keep evidence of any platform clarification. A successful upload is not a regulatory opinion.
4. Presentation, owned by the brand compliance lead. Clear the listing, product name, image text, creator brief, testimonial selections and LIVE answers together. Record permitted wording and its supporting evidence. Hold any treatment or prevention implication that is inappropriate for a non-medicinal product.
5. Monitoring, owned by the marketing lead. Assign responsibility for checking published content, corrections and changes to the formulation or policy. Record when the release decision must be revisited. A new claim is a new review, even if the product itself has not changed.
Use pass, hold or stop for each check. A hold needs missing evidence and a named owner, not a plan to resolve the issue after the creator launch.
What makes a pet supplement a veterinary medicine?
A product can require veterinary medicine authorisation because of how it is presented or because of what it does. Calling it natural, herbal or nutritional does not exempt it.
The VMD's guidance updated 25 September 2026 distinguishes products that are medicinal by presentation from those that are medicinal by function. Presentation includes claims about treating or preventing disease. Function concerns substances with recognised medicinal effects and the relevant regulatory definition.
That means a formula review and a copy review are separate tasks. Removing a disease name does not necessarily resolve a medicinal ingredient. Equally, an ordinary feed formulation can be marketed in a way that presents it as a medicine.
Ask the regulatory lead to assess the product as a whole. The VMD points businesses towards its medicinal-substances guidance and enforcement team when classification concerns arise. For non-medicinal feed regulation, it identifies Trading Standards or the Food Standards Agency as relevant contacts.
Do not substitute a human supplement checklist for animal feed and veterinary rules. Our human supplement operating guide covers a different category; it is not evidence that the same ingredients or claims are permitted for animals.
Can pet supplement brands say "supports healthy joints"?
There is no universally safe phrase. The VMD says non-medicinal products may be presented for maintaining health in healthy animals, and that "support" follows the same rules as "maintain". Context and feed-law requirements still matter.
Under the 25 September 2026 VMD guidance, nutritional formulations supporting normal physiological function or recognised nutritional sensitivities may fall outside medicinal classification when presented in accordance with feed legislation. That is not permission to promise recovery from an adverse health condition.
Our recommendation is to put the proposed phrase beside the actual evidence, intended animal population and complete script. A healthy animal's normal routine is different from a story about reversing pain, treating allergies or replacing prescribed treatment. The surrounding footage can change the meaning even if the spoken line sounds cautious.
The guidance explicitly says "may help" and disclaimers do not protect a medicinal presentation. Do not add "not a medicine" underneath a treatment promise and assume the contradiction has been solved.
The VMD also describes particular nutritional purpose feeds, for which exact authorised wording and conditions matter. Have the regulatory lead check those specific provisions rather than extending an exception to every supplement.

Can a creator use customer reviews or before-and-after footage?
Only use material that survives the same product-specific claims review as the brand's own copy. Quoting a customer does not neutralise an inappropriate medicinal claim.
The VMD guidance updated 25 September 2026 says testimonials containing medicinal claims are treated as the company's claims when used by it. It also warns against imagery implying a medicinal purpose, including before-and-after images involving a visible condition or injury requiring veterinary treatment.
For a creator brief, recommend verifiable product information: packaging, intended species, the labelled feeding instructions and an accurate explanation of ordinary use. Do not ask the creator to manufacture an illness narrative or show an animal exceeding the labelled intake to make the video more dramatic.
Prepare a response for individual clinical questions: "We cannot assess your pet's symptoms here; ask your vet whether this product is suitable." That is a suggested moderation line, not individual veterinary advice.
Use our pet LIVE session controls for host and moderator responsibilities. Before an asset enters the wider content strategy, check its captions, thumbnails and edits as well as its original script.
Can you sell CBD supplements for pets on TikTok Shop UK?
Do not treat pet CBD as an ordinary feed supplement. The VMD says any CBD product for animals other than an authorised CBD-based veterinary medicine would be an illegal veterinary medicine.
That wording comes from the VMD's 25 September 2026 guidance. It is materially stronger than saying the category is simply complicated or needs a cleaner advertising brief.
There is a separate platform constraint: the UK Prohibited Products Policy, dated 25 August 2026, lists animal medicines and medicated feed as unsupported. Regulatory authorisation and marketplace availability are different tests, so satisfying one must not be presented as satisfying the other.
The UK restricted policy contains provisions for certain human CBD products elsewhere in the document. Do not carry those provisions into the pet category. The brand regulatory lead should resolve the actual animal-product classification; shop operations should separately verify platform eligibility. Hold launch activity while either remains unresolved.
What should change when a brand expands outside the UK?
Repeat the eligibility and claims assessment for the destination market. A UK decision does not establish US or EU approval, and documents requested in one seller workflow are not automatically mandatory everywhere.
The UK Restricted Products Policy dated 27 August 2026 expressly defines its scope as TikTok Shop UK. Its wording is therefore evidence for that market, not a global rulebook.
Our recommendation is to maintain a separate market release record with the applicable platform policy, regulatory classification, packaging language, seller requirements and approved claims. Ask the local regulatory specialist to resolve territorial differences, including Northern Ireland where relevant, before copying a Great Britain launch pack.
Protect the commercial model at the same time. Model compliance review, rejected or revised assets, samples, fulfilment and expected returns using actual costs. Our break-even calculator guide explains the contribution approach. This article supplies no pet-supplement conversion benchmark or guaranteed reorder rate.
Who should own a controlled pet supplement launch?
The brand should own product legality and claims evidence, with shop operations and marketing translating that decision into listings and content controls. An agency can coordinate the process but should not replace a product-specific regulatory assessment with confidence about the category.
Choose a TikTok Shop agency that can explain what evidence holds a launch, who checks creator claims and how changes trigger review. Creator volume is useful only after the product and message have cleared those controls.

The commercial objective is an eligible product with a repeatable, accurate buying explanation. Start with classification, then build the creative programme around what the evidence permits.
FAQ: what should sellers know about pet supplements?
Are all pet supplements allowed on TikTok Shop UK?
No. Check each product against the current UK restricted and unsupported product policies. Pet-category availability does not establish eligibility for animal medicines, medicated feed or every formulation marketed as a supplement.
Which attributes does TikTok require for UK pet food?
Section 3.7 of the UK Restricted Products Policy, dated 27 August 2026, specifies ingredients and allergens. Sellers must also be ready to supply requested label or packaging evidence and meet applicable legal requirements.
Does "natural" remove veterinary medicine requirements?
No. The VMD's guidance updated 25 September 2026 says herbal, nutraceutical and natural products follow the same rules. Assess ingredients, function and presentation rather than relying on a natural-origin description.
Is "may help" a safe alternative to a treatment claim?
No. The VMD says cautious wording and disclaimers do not protect an unauthorised medicinal presentation. The meaning of the whole claim matters, including imagery and the condition being discussed.
Can a vet endorsement make a medicinal claim acceptable?
No. The VMD says veterinary professionals are not exempt from the advertising rules. An endorsement does not substitute for the product's required authorisation or establish that TikTok permits its sale.
Can a UK claims pack be reused in another market?
Not without local review. UK platform rules establish UK requirements only. Recheck classification, ingredients, packaging and promotional wording with the destination market's regulatory specialist before launch.
