Can Korean Brands Sell on TikTok Shop US Without a US Entity? The 2026 Guide | Z MEDIA

Yes. Since May 2025, Korean brands can sell on TikTok Shop US without setting up a US company. TikTok's Korea-US Cross-Border solution lets you launch using only a Korean corporate entity, a Korean passport, a Korean address, a virtual bank account and a US-capable 3PL. Here is exactly how it works, what still needs to be right, and why the US is the obvious next stop after K-beauty's run on TikTok Shop UK.

Can Korean brands sell on TikTok Shop US without a US entity?

Yes. As of 30 May 2025, Korean sellers no longer need a US corporate entity, a US bank account or a US business address to launch on TikTok Shop US. That was the single biggest blocker for Korean brands for the first few years of TikTok Shop's existence, and TikTok removed it with a dedicated route called the Korea-US Cross-Border solution.

To qualify, a Korean brand needs:

  • A Korean corporate entity. Your existing business registration in Korea is sufficient. You do not need a US subsidiary or branch.

  • A Korean passport for the registering individual or director.

  • A Korean business address. No US address required at any point in the application.

  • A virtual bank account, used to receive payouts without a US banking relationship.

  • Access to a 3PL that can operate in the US. This is the part brands most often underestimate. TikTok Shop US still needs goods to move through US fulfilment infrastructure, whether that is a bonded warehouse, a US-based 3PL, or a cross-border logistics partner with US delivery capability.

That is the full list. No US LLC, no EIN admin, no US-resident officer. TikTok began actively expanding Korean entries into the US TikTok Shop from that May 2025 date, and newly joined brands were offered promotional support in their first 30 days to help with the launch.

What changed, and why it matters

Before May 2025, the requirement set for any non-US seller wanting into TikTok Shop US looked like this: a US corporate entity, a US business bank account and a US business address, on top of the usual product listing and tax requirements. For a Korean skincare or beauty brand with no US legal presence, that meant either forming a US entity from scratch (with all the accounting, tax and compliance overhead that brings) or working through an intermediary who already had one, often on unfavourable terms.

The Korea-US Cross-Border solution collapses that into a Korea-only compliance stack plus a working logistics partner. That is a genuinely different calculation. Instead of a legal and banking project that takes months and requires ongoing US corporate maintenance, market entry becomes a commercial and operational project: get your product US-compliant, get it into a 3PL, get your content and creator strategy right.

Matty Lin, General Manager of Global Business Solutions at TikTok Korea, described the move as a pivotal moment that accelerates local brands' global expansion. TikTok has consistently framed TikTok Shop as more than a distribution channel, positioning it as a combined advertising, content and logistics solution rather than a marketplace bolt-on. The entity requirement was the last major structural piece keeping that vision out of reach for Korean sellers specifically targeting the US.

The scale of the opportunity this opens up is worth sitting with. TikTok Shop's global vendor base grew 60% in a single year, from 700,000 sellers in 2023 to 1.1 million in 2024. The US is TikTok Shop's largest market globally. Korean brands are now able to enter it directly for the first time.

Why the US is the natural next step after the UK

If you want proof that this works rather than a theory that it might, look at what K-beauty has already done on TikTok Shop UK.

By 2025, TikTok Shop had become the UK's 4th largest beauty retailer, on the back of 60% year-on-year growth in the category. Within that, K-beauty was one of the standout performers. TikTok Shop UK saw a 125% surge in K-beauty search interest, largely driven by the "glass skin" trend that Korean skincare content popularised across the platform. The hashtag #kbeauty became the third most used beauty hashtag in the UK.

This was not a handful of brands riding a moment. Medicube, Beauty of Joseon and BIOHEAL BOH all launched successfully on TikTok Shop UK, proving the format works for Korean multi-step skincare specifically, not just beauty generally. And the commercial detail matters here: K-beauty's average basket value on TikTok Shop runs roughly 35% higher than the overall skincare category average, driven directly by the multi-step routine structure that K-beauty is built around. Serum, essence, moisturiser and SPF sell as a set far more often than a single item does.

That is the proof of concept. The UK showed that TikTok Shop's short-form, creator-led, live-shopping format converts K-beauty exceptionally well, and that Western audiences will buy multi-step routines at a premium basket value when the content earns their trust. The US is a larger version of the same audience, on the same platform, with the same content mechanics, and until May 2025 it was simply closed off structurally. It no longer is.

Separately, and on a different track entirely, TikTok Shop is expected to launch domestically within South Korea, possibly around Q3 2026, though TikTok has not confirmed this officially and the timing is reportedly being evaluated against how the Japan TikTok Shop launch performs, Japan being TikTok Shop's first East Asian market. That is a distinct opportunity from the US cross-border route and worth tracking, but it should not distract from the fact that the US market is open to Korean brands right now.

What you still need to get right

Removing the entity barrier does not remove the rest of the work. A few areas deserve specific attention.

Compliance and labelling. The US regulates cosmetics differently to Korea or the UK. Cosmetic products sold in the US fall under FDA rules, and since the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MoCRA), most cosmetic facilities and products need to be registered with the FDA, with ingredient listings kept current. Labelling requirements around ingredient declarations, net quantity, and claims language also differ from Korean and UK conventions. This is not something to treat as a formality. Get it wrong and you risk delisting, not just a slow launch.

Logistics. The Korea-US Cross-Border route requires "access to" a US-capable 3PL, but access is not the same as a good setup. Delivery speed directly affects TikTok Shop's algorithm and buyer trust, so the quality of your 3PL partner, not just its existence, determines whether your listings actually get distribution.

Content and creator strategy. TikTok Shop US is a far more saturated, faster-moving creator market than either Korea or the UK. Affiliate and creator dynamics that work in one market do not automatically transfer. Brands that treat the US like a bigger version of the UK, without adjusting content pacing, creator selection and hook style for a US audience, generally underperform their potential.

Affiliate economics. Commission structures that attract creators in the UK or Korea are not automatically competitive in the US, where creators have far more brands bidding for their attention. Getting commission rates and sample strategy wrong here is one of the most common and most expensive mistakes brands make on entry.

How CRSSBRDR and Z MEDIA fit in

TikTok's own Korea-US Cross-Border route solves the legal entity problem. It does not solve compliance depth, ongoing fulfilment optimisation, or the commercial engine needed to actually grow once you are listed.

CRSSBRDR is a Merchant of Record built by a licensed accountant and a founding TikTok Shop Partner agency. It gets US, UK and EU brands live on TikTok Shop markets without forming a local entity, handling VAT, customs, compliance and fulfilment end to end. For Korean brands using the TikTok Cross-Border route, CRSSBRDR can sit alongside it as the compliance and operational layer, tightening up the labelling, tax and fulfilment detail that TikTok's own route does not manage for you.

Z MEDIA is an official TikTok Partner and one of the founding TikTok Shop agencies in the Western world, having worked directly with TikTok's internal product and commerce teams on how TikTok Shop should function outside China. We have generated over £100M in GMV and 2B+ impressions across 300+ brand launches, including Anastasia Beverly Hills, COSRX, MyProtein, Wingstop and Meroda Cosmetics. Where CRSSBRDR handles the compliance and merchant layer, Z MEDIA runs the commerce engine: creator sourcing, content strategy, affiliate management and paid amplification, the parts that actually convert a compliant listing into GMV. Full service starts from £5k a month.

Common mistakes Korean brands make entering TikTok Shop US

  1. Assuming US TikTok Shop works like Korean or UK TikTok Shop. The algorithm, creator pool, commission norms and buyer expectations all differ market to market. Copying a UK or domestic Korean playbook without adapting it is one of the fastest ways to underperform.

  2. Underestimating US compliance and labelling differences. FDA cosmetic registration and US labelling rules are stricter and more specific than many brands expect, and getting caught out post-launch is far more costly than getting it right before you list.

  3. Getting affiliate commission economics wrong for the US market. Commission rates that work in Korea or the UK often are not competitive enough to win creator attention in the far more crowded US creator market.

  4. Treating TikTok Shop as a side channel instead of a content engine. Brands that post occasionally and expect organic reach rarely get traction. TikTok Shop US rewards consistent, high-volume content and structured creator partnerships, not sporadic posting.

  5. Moving without local expertise on the ground. Entity barriers are gone, but market knowledge barriers are not. Brands that launch without US-market experience in content, compliance or logistics tend to make avoidable mistakes that a local partner would catch immediately.

Your 3 options

Option 1. Learn to run it in-house with TokShopOS, the operating system and playbooks built across $100M+ in GMV, for brands who want to run TikTok Shop without paying agency margins.

Option 2. Use a Merchant of Record like CRSSBRDR to handle VAT, customs, compliance and fulfilment without forming a local entity.

Option 3. Run it with an embedded agency partner like Z MEDIA, who can launch and scale the commerce engine from day one.

The smartest brands often combine all three: CRSSBRDR for compliance, Z MEDIA to launch and stabilise, and TokShopOS to bring it in-house later once the model is proven.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a US company to sell on TikTok Shop?
No, not if you are a Korean brand using the Korea-US Cross-Border solution launched in May 2025. You can qualify with a Korean corporate entity, a Korean passport, a Korean address, a virtual bank account and access to a US-capable 3PL.

What is the Korea-US Cross-Border solution?
It is TikTok's dedicated route, live since 30 May 2025, that lets Korean businesses join TikTok Shop US without forming a US entity. Previously, sellers needed a full US corporate entity, US bank account and US address, which was the main blocker for Korean brands.

How long does it take to get approved?
TikTok has not published a fixed timeline, but brands that arrive with clean documentation, a working 3PL relationship and FDA-ready product listings move through onboarding considerably faster than those still sorting compliance out after applying.

What products sell best for Korean brands on TikTok Shop US?
Skincare, particularly multi-step routines, has been the standout category on TikTok Shop internationally. The UK data shows K-beauty's average basket value running roughly 35% higher than the general skincare category, driven by routine-based buying rather than single products.

Do I need FDA registration?
Cosmetic products sold in the US generally need to meet FDA requirements, including facility and product registration obligations introduced under MoCRA, along with US-compliant ingredient and labelling declarations. This should be sorted before launch, not after.

Is Korea's own TikTok Shop launching?
TikTok Shop is expected to potentially launch domestically in South Korea around Q3 2026, though this is unconfirmed and reportedly depends on how the Japan TikTok Shop launch performs. This is a separate opportunity from the US cross-border route covered here.

Can I use my existing UK TikTok Shop presence to help launch in the US?
Not directly, US and UK TikTok Shop are separate markets with separate listings, creator pools and compliance requirements, but the content and routine-based selling strategy that worked in the UK is a strong starting template for the US.

Do I still need a US-based team?
Not necessarily a full US team, but you do need US-market expertise somewhere in your operation, whether that is compliance knowledge, creator relationships, or fulfilment experience. This is exactly the gap that partners like CRSSBRDR and Z MEDIA are built to close.
